Next weekend, the first weekend in August, is the biggest local travel weekend of the year. This weekend, called in Icelandic, Verslunarmannahelgin, translates badly and roughly to English as the Shopkeepers or Commerce-people weekend. It means originally that everybody working in shops got a holiday on the Monday after. That meant that a long weekend in the country was the logical choice. Now it is a holiday weekend that everyone has the ability to go for, whatever profession or business section they adhere to. (not everybody does go of course).
In this weekend many planned events are all over the country. If you decide to go, be careful to choose the right event as this is a party weekend with a lot of very wild and crazy partyplaces in between. Strictly family friendly and alcohol free events are also available. Something for everybody is available for this weekend. Also in the city there are planned events for those who donīt like to sleep in a tent and are more of a city creature.
